Indian style festivity of Diwali
Diwali is illustrious across India with different beliefs and traditions. This occasion reminds the victory of god Rama over demon Ravana. This festival also signifies brotherhood and prosperity. Before the commencement of other rituals it is believed that god Ganesha and goddess Laxmi should be worshipped first to mark the commencement of the pious process and the occasion of health and wealth.
Lightning of earthen lamps, rangoli making, exchange of gifts and sweets has their own meaning and beauty. Today on the eve of Diwali people participate in rangoli competitions, sweet making competitions, decoration competitions so as to fill it with fun and frolic.
Rajasthani Diwali
Rajasthan is the state of color and culture and Diwali is the most awaited celebration there and is usually preceded by Diwali fairs organized state-wide. People celebrate and engage in the festivity with great enthusiasm and passion. Ladies prepare delicacies like Mawa Kachori, Til Ke Laddo, Gonth ke Laddu, Piste ke Launj, Moti Pak, Pheeni, Sohan Papdi, Besan Barfi, Jalebi, Shakarpara etc. while the man of the house get busy with the decorations followed by puja, dance and music in the evening.
West Bengal
On the eve of Diwali goddess Kali is worshipped and the puja continues throughout the night, lamps poured with ghee and oil are lit and the temples are decorated with flowers and lights. Early in the morning aarti marks the end of puja and people return home after taking the blessing of maa Kali.
Unlike in most of the parts of India, Diwali is a three day festival in Bengal, the first two days hold lot of importance followed by extensive meal, drinking, gambling, family gatherings, lights and fire crackers.
Uttar Pradesh
The city of Varanasi, begins the festival morning bathing at various ghats of river Ganga, offer flower in the morning aarti. In the evening ganaga aarti starts, people light lamps and put them in a small leaf and leave it in the river.
Punjab
Celebration starts with lightning of lamps, flower decoration, rangoli and sweet preparations.
Diwali marks the anniversary of Guru Hargobinji, who was released from jail on this day.
The Golden temple of Amritsar lights up bright with lamps and thousands of devotees offer prayers for good health and wealth. In the evening people dance on dhol beats, along with lightning fire crackers and enjoy the bright festival.
