Diwali celebrations are more popular for firecracker shows, especially amongst the younger generation. Yet we need to take some precautions while enjoying the cracker shows or burning crackers ourselves. At the end of the day they are hazardous and unsafe if handled without any safety measures.
Always burn firecrackers in an open area where no vehicles, trees, hospitals or other important buildings are located. Ensure that you keep a bucket or two filled with water near the place firecrackers are being burnt. Avoid giving young children any fire crackers as they may end up hurting them selves.
Avoid relighting or handling malfunctioning fireworks. Drench them with water and throw them away. Keep unused fireworks away. Avoid standing too close to the firecrackers while burning them as for the occasion you might be wearing a sensitive cloth like silk etc and they are prone to catch fire easily.
Fireworks have been known to backfire or shoot off in the wrong direction. Do not throw or point firecrackers at any one. Ensure that kids do not pick up pieces of fireworks after they finished burning as some may still be ignited and can explode at any time.
Keep the first aid kid handy, it is always helpful and needed. If in case somebody suffers from any burns splash water and put the burn medicine immediately on the affected area. Repeat the process till the burning sensation reduces. Cover your hands while burning the crackers with a thick cloth which cannot catch fire easily.
Also do not put the firecracker inside your pockets or near any match boxes, diyas or candles as it may catch fire.
Celebrate the festival with peace and respect for the other individuals and the environment. At the end of the day burning crackers is burning your hard earned money; enjoy them to a certain limit and don’t go overboard.
